Our History
1948
The company was founded by Alfonso Soláns Serrano, and started its activity under his own name. Composed of a team of seven workers, started to produce beds and metal bed bases in a small premises in the city of Zaragoza.
1955
Pikolin brand borns and the manufacture of spring mattresses begins.
1973
Pikolin celebrates its 25th anniversary with the inauguration of the factory located on the Logroño highway in Zaragoza. One of the largest factory in the world, at the time.
1984
The revolutionary spring block Normablock introduces in Spain. The most technologically advanced continuos wire spring block of the market is introduced as a result of the close relantionship between Pikolin and the North American company Legget&Patt.
1985
Grupo Pikolin creates BEDS, the largest rest store franchise with more than 200 points of sale in Spain.
1988
Grupo Pikolin creates its subsidiary in Portugal, coming into a reality PIKOLIN LUSITANA.
1998
The brand and mattress technology Bultex introduces in Spain.
1999
Grupo Pikolin reaches a distribution agreement for the European market, with SERTA, the first rest operator in USA’s market.
2002
The french joint-venture between Grupo Pikolin and Recticel, COFEL is created. Recticel is a Belgium listed company with more than 11.000 employees that manufactures and sells some of the most well-known brands in the french market, such as Bultex, Epeda, Merinos, Lattoflex and Swissflex, with five production plants in France.
2004
Grupo Pikolin purchases the brand SEMA, the oldest rest brand in Spain, created in 1939.
2006
Grupo Pikolin takes control of SMATTEX, S.A., the company that manufactures Dunlopillo and Mediterráneo in Spain and Portugal.
2007
Grupo Pikolin opens his first representative office of the Group in China.
2009
Grupo Pikolin takes full control of COFEL, the largest French manufacturer of rest products, thus reinforce its leading position in the European rest market and takes control of the Bultex, Epeda and Merinos brands, leaders in the french market. With this milestone, Grupo Pikolin becomes the second largest European rest group.
2011
Grupo Pikolin continues its internationalization process with the purchase of Dunlopillo brand, of SimeDarby Group. This brand, with headquarters in Malaysia, works in 30 countries all around the world, and 15 in Southeast Asia.
2012
One year with 2 agreements that consolidates the leadership of Grupo Pikolin. At the international level, Grupo Pikolin enters in the italian market with a new company: Literie Italia, a joint-venture with the leading manufacturer of the transapline country: B&T. On the other hand, in the spanish market, Grupo Pikolin acquires Industrias Hidráulicas Pardo, consolidating its leadership position in the hospitaly and geriatric rest market.
2015
Presentation of the project to build the new facilities of Grupo Pikolin in Zaragoza (Spain). One of the largest and most modern logistics-industrial complex in Europe and in the world, of the rest sector.
2016
Grupo Pikolin strengthens its commitment of internationalization with the strategic alliance, creating a joint-venture with Sleep House Brazil and Steinhoff International. Steinhoff International will acquire a 50% stake in Cofel, the french subsidiary of Grupo Pikolin.
2017
Grupo Pikolin opens its new logistics-industrial complex in Zaragoza,with an inversion of more than 50 million euros. The new facilities in PLAZA, with 225,000m², are the largest and most advanced industrial complex in Europe in the rest sector, as well as one of the largest in the world.
2019
Grupo Pikolin acquires the remaining 50% of SleepHouse and starts building the new Pikolin factory in Guaramirin (Sant Catarina State). Starting to manufacter the brands: Pikolin, Mannes, American Sleep and Dedicace. The offices are based in Sao Paulo, and this agreement strengthens the brand’s implantation on the South American continent.
