Our History

1948

The company, founded by Alfonso Soláns Serrano, and starting its activity under his name, was composed of a staff of seven workers, starting to produce metal beds and bed bases in small premises in the city of Zaragoza.

1955

Creation of the Pikolin brand and the manufacture of spring mattresses begins.

1973

Pikolin celebrates its 25th anniversary with the inauguration of the factory located on the Logroño highway in Zaragoza, one of the largest in the world.

1984

As a result of the close relationship between Pikolin and the American company Leggett&Platt, the revolutionary Normablock spring block, the most technologically advanced continuous wire spring block, is introduced in Spain.

1985

Grupo Pikolin creates BEDS, the largest rest store franchise that currently has more than 200 points of sale in Spain.

1988

Grupo Pikolin creates its subsidiary in Portugal, PIKOLIN LUSITANA.

1998

Introduction of the Bultex mattress and technology in Spain.

1999

Grupo Pikolin reaches a distribution agreement with the SERTA brand for the European market. Serta is the first operator in the rest market in the USA.

2002

Creation of COFEL, the French Joint Venture between Pikolin Group and Recticel. Recticel is a Belgian listed company with more than 11,000 employees. COFEL manufactures and markets some of the most well-known brands in the French market such as Bultex, Epeda, Merinos, Lattoflex and Swissflex, and has five production plants in France and 850 employees.

2004

Grupo Pikolin purchases the SEMA brand, the oldest sleep brand in Spain, created in 1939.

2006

Grupo Pikolin takes control of SMATTEX, S.A., the company that manufactures Dunlopillo and Mediterráneo bedding products in Spain and Portugal.

2007

Grupo Pikolin opens the doors of its representative office in China.

2009

Grupo Pikolin takes full control of COFEL, the largest French manufacturer of bedding products, thus reinforcing its leading position in the European bedding market and taking control of the Bultex, Epeda and Merinos brands, leaders in the French market. With this milestone, Grupo Pikolin becomes the second largest European bedding group.

2011

Grupo Pikolin continues its internationalization process with the purchase of the Dunlopillo brand for 45 countries.

To this end, it closed the purchase of the mattress subsidiary, Dunlopillo Holdings Sdn.Bhd., belonging to the SimeDarby group, with headquarters in Malaysia and commercial activity in more than 15 countries in Southeast Asia.

2012

Two important agreements mark the year 2012. On the one hand, at the international level, Grupo Pikolin enters the Italian market with a new company: Literie Italia, a Joint Venture with the leading manufacturer in the transalpine country: B&T. On the other hand, in the Spanish market, Grupo Pikolin acquired Industrias Hidráulicas Pardo, consolidating its leadership position in the hospital and geriatric bedding market.

2015

Presentation of the project to build its new facilities in Zaragoza (Spain); the largest and most modern logistics-industrial complex in Europe and one of the largest in the world in the rest sector, which will be operational from the beginning of 2017.

2016

Grupo Pikolin strengthens its commitment to internationalization with the signing of a joint venture with Sleep House Brazil and Steinhoff International and Grupo Pikolin announce a strategic alliance. Steinhoff International will acquire a 50% stake in Cofel, the French subsidiary of Grupo Pikolin. This agreement will contribute to the development of both companies in the international sleep market.

2017

Grupo Pikolin opens its new logistics-industrial complex in Zaragoza, in which it has invested more than 50 million euros. The new facilities in PLAZA, with 225,000m², are the largest and most advanced industrial complex in Europe in the rest sector, as well as one of the largest in the world.

2019

Grupo Pikolin acquires the remaining 50% of SleepHouse and starts building the new Pikolin factory in Sao Paulo.  This agreement strengthens the brand’s presence on the South American continent.
